Hill (1685-1750) İngiliz yazardır. Hill’in deneme, mektup ve şiirlerin-
den oluşan bir koleksiyonu ölümünün ardından 1753’te, dramatik
eserleri de 1760 yılında yayımlanmıştır. Aaron Hill çocuk denilecek
bir yaşta henüz 14 yaşındayken, büyükannesinin desteğiyle, o sıra-
larda İstanbul’da elçi olarak bulunan akrabası Lord Paget’i ziyaret
etmek üzere 1700 yılında yola çıkar. İstanbul’da Lord Paget’in yanına
refakatçi olarak atadığı bir rahibin rehberliğinde Yunanistan, Mısır
ve Filistin’i gezmiştir. Seyahatnâmesi 1709 yılında yayınlanmıştır.
Hill, çok genç olmasına rağmen, doğu seyahatinde kendinden ön-
ceki seyyahların gözünde kaçan ilginç konuları incelemiş, toplumsal
yaşam, gelenekler, sosyal, kültürel, idari ve ekonomik durumu ay-
rıntılarıyla anlatmıştır. Hill kitabı basıldığında sadece 24 yaşındaydı.

1849) İzmir’de doğmuş İngiliz diplomattır. İran’da bulunan Qajar
hanedanı ile ilgili romanlar yazmıştır. Bunların en önemlisi “Hajji
Baba” serisidir. İngiltere’de aldığı eğitimin ardından 1799-1806 ta-
rihleri arasında babasının İzmir’deki işinde çalışmıştır. 1808-1809
arasında İran üzerinden Ermenistan, Anadolu ve İstanbul’a yaptığı
